1965 Aroliner Convaire

Post by daveswaves »

Sometimes you have to do the boat first before you hang the Mercury. This boat as found had been painted with house paint, many layers, with a brush. No paint was spared to protect the aluminum lol.

Different exhaust divider on this 66 cubic inc 6. Obviously an attempt at tuning as it divider is cast that way.

Dave, that model must have been one of the last production pieces.

Lots of good info and history here:

I have the 14ft Carry-Aire model from the late '50s.

Very solid boat. Altho rated at 20hp, it will plane out with a Super5 on the back. The company did not scrimp on materials.

Hi John I grew up with Aroliner boats. We bought a Canadaire back in 1964. Ran it all over the lake with a 18 hp Johnson. Visited the factory in 64 to pick up our new boat. Before delivery the boat was placed in a cement trough full of water and a full length cement block was lowered onto it. The boat was pushed down to the gunnels to show the customer there were no leaks. Very impressive.
The boat I have is the Convaire from 1965. The black and white pic is from the 65 brochure. The company continued to make boats into the 90s. This one is a 65 model.
