Conrad , I agree they are drawings all so. I sure would like to know why they included the support at the bottom of the transom for the exhaust legs ???????

Probably the same boat and motors as in the previous photo. I know this image appeared in magaznie advertising for Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. The boat is theire 22 ft. Sea Lane Cabin Cruiser. The white outline is airbrushing of the original image for the ad format:

now I wonder what powered the boat originally.

Could have been an OMC. icon_shh.gif

Well all of that on the back is drawing.   Could have been an engineering  thought on moving the thrust lower on the transom if they were worried about transom flex/torque.

The front of each motor would hit a cradle and put the torque  load down low on the transom where it is stronger.

Ive never seen one before but the engineering makes sense.

1964 Anniversary Year lineup photo on white cast iron stands

Postby Tom Brockmeyer » Tue Mar 18, 2014 2:53 pm

This is the back cover of AOMCI's "The Outboarder" January 1997...  Sorry for the scan quality, but it's not that great to begin with.  Maybe someone has an original, higher quality magazine ad they could scan?

I actually own a cast iron stand with no other color (or primer) than white on it.  Found it in an antique store basement in Cadiz, KY about 15yrs ago.

Mercury Mark10 Blue/White color scheme (print ad)

Ebay seller was in Argentina...  I snagged this image because I have never seen one painted like this.

The image is small, so you have to click on it and magnify it.

Anyone wanna kick in and buy this to scan for the JOMS records?  There is actually an INSANE volume of cool old Mercury brochures & advertising on ebay right now.

I'm in for $10

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321677774131             ( Same guy has LOTS of neat stuff, click here:  http://tinyurl.com/zjcf4nz  )

Description:  Here's 2  brochures to order 16 MM movies from Mercury outboard 1 has Roy Rogers in it each one measures 3 3/4" by 8 1/2" closed, open is 8 1/2 by 11" the one that says free on the front has some discoloration on the back side see pics. If you want something a little unusual for your collection here it is, they would look good framed

I asked Mercury to release some more films on DVD but no luck, I wonder if they still have the original negs? It's a damn shame.

If it doesn't make loads of money for Mercury, it ain't gonna happen.  There is literally no one left there that cares about the old outboard business.  If there was I wouldn't be the only Mercury retiree in the Winnebagoland Chapter of AOMCI which is headquartered in Fond du Lac.  Even the Merc museum  for the 75th anniversary was only open for 4 months - I've about lost interest in it also except for the IL6's and race motors.  To most 40 year + employees, it was just a job -

That's what got Carl so p*ssed off at Brunswick after they "stole my company".

Thanks Stan, I appreciate your comments.  In the last month we lost the long time shop superintendent from the Oshkosh test site, and two weeks ago the top carburetor guy from the 50's and 60's passed also.  I seldom see anyone around town, not that I go looking, but one would think you would cross paths at the local lumber yard or hardware store, or out for a fish fry on Friday nights, which is like a rite of passion in Wisconsin  (but getting expensive I might add).  Biggest Walleye Tournament in the country coming up in a few weeks at the city waterfront park, Walleye Weekend, usually see somebody there.  I had to work that thing for years, was on the Merc Tournament Tech team that got broken motors back on the water - if it happened at the Tournament, we would replace complete powerheads or gearcases if it was a litigimate mechanical failure.  Some nights worked until 10-11 PM getting everybody ready for the next day - 300 boats!  I did that for the MWC for 4-5 years also (Masters Walleye Circuit), usually 150 boats, the local area factory tech rep and myself, and my 16 foot trailer loaded with everything that could possibly break.
Well, got off the subject a bit, but you are right when our generation goes, probably there goes the entire old outboard hobby.

Note the Mercedes sports car in the top photo.  That is not there by chance, for Carl was seriously considering a merger with Mercedes at the moment.  The deal fell through at the last moment; a shame since it would have benefit both companies. They wanted to build their MOOG all purpose vehicle in America (a dopey ides that never sold) where Carl told them to build their sports car instead; and he was right.

As a Germanic American, Carl wanted the merger very much but, being a Germanic American, he probably knew he couldn't have gotten along with them.  Look at the Daimler-Chrysler merger; virtually every one of Chrysler's  creative, worthwhile designers and engineers quit rather than put up the arrogant, pain in the rear Germans!

Use a fax/copier/scanner or just a scanner, maybe a friend or family member has one or a library. 150dpi is good
