Chloe Update

Postby Chloe » Thu Dec 15, 2016 3:19 am

Hey guys, I hope everybody is having a good start to their holiday seasons. I thought I should just give a little update on everything going on right now, even though it's not raceing season. So my senior year has started off good. I was elected the president of our Technology Students Association, the president of our Competitive Robotics team, and am in good standing in the National Honors Society. I recently moved up in rankings from an apprentice to a journeyman with the Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society under the craft of rope making. Everything going pretty good.

Just recently was the start of my basketball season. It was going really well, at our scrimmage the other night I hit 5 out of 6 three-pointers. But then on Wednesday night last week I fell pretty hard in practice. After being evaluated by the certified athletic trainer at school, I went to the Penn State medical center to be evaluated by a knee specialist. The doctor concluded with the help of an MRI that I have completely torn my ACL, part of my MCL, and my meniscus. We have scheduled surgery for January 3rd and are looking at a 9 month recovery period. Until the surgery, I am working hard everyday with the trainer to build up the muscles in and around my knee. The stronger I am going into surgery, the stronger I will be coming out and then the quicker the recovery process. Looking ahead, we are getting the surgery done now instead of waiting because of two main reasons. The first, I physically can not walk. There are 6 tendons in your knee (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL, Patellar tendon, and meniscus) and I have torn 3 of the 6. There physically is nothing there to allow me to move it. And the second reason is that I have received a $24,000 scholarship to go throw javelin and discus for Delaware Valley University. I have to get the surgery now if I even have a chance at getting back in time for college track.

Looking at boat racing, it is a 9 month until full clearance. So with surgery in January, we are looking at October. That is when I would be cleared for full contact sports (basketball). Depending on my range of motion, my strength, and any pain; I may be able to race boats sooner than October. Nothing is for sure yet on the recovery timeline, but all we can do now is hope for the best. I will do everything and anything I can to be back and healthy as soon as possible.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas,
Chloe

This was tough news to read, Chloe...  After reading your update, I am less impressed with your boat racing and MORE impressed with the rest of your life activities!  I used to catch javelin in college... Never threw it much!

Chloe - very sorry to hear of your injury and hope that your surgery and recovery go well for you. Concentrate on getting better, when you are ready to race again we will be here for you. Having had knee surgery myself, a word of advise, after surgery work as hard as you possibly can at your physical therapy. It will make a big difference down the road as far as strength and range of motion. Given all you have accomplished so far, I know you can do it. God Bless! Stan Augustine

Chloe as others have said, physio is your friend.  Good for you on the pre surgical strengthening it will make a huge difference in recovery.  You are a remarkable young woman and will take this in stride I'm sure.  Merry Christmas, ask santa for a gel kneeling pad icon_thumbup.gif

Just now seeing this

I 100% agree with Tom that your racing accomplishments are nothing compared to the rest of the amazing things you have done
Your knee will be fine- I'm praying for you
I might be coming up to visit the team captain (Joe Sees) over Xmas
Hope I get to see you too icon_thumbup.gif

I have had great success with fish oil pills for my knees
They are shot from 30+yrs of dirt bike racing
and kneeling on concrete fixing furnaces

Just don't never ever bite into a fish oil pill
And please don't ask how I know this

Best of luck to you Miss Chole
With you on the beach for a little while maybe now the guys have a chance to win :D

..."my knees

My back is a casualty of my own years of motocross/ endures/ hill climbs/ ice racing...

It was un at the time, though.
