Chloes New Race Boat

Postby Michael » Sun Dec 04, 2016 9:50 pm

Gentlemen if you recall Chloe borrowed a runabout near the end of last race season and it had to be the next boat, so here it is, this is the boat we just raised some cash for parts..It just needs some decals and some nice weather.
thanks again to all that continue to support the race team.

That is a beautiful boat. I have a question: if runabouts can have a pointed nose, why do hydros have to have rounded pickles. A runabout can hurt someone just as a hydro. Just curious.

Not all runabouts are pointed, I just was talking to Tom Brockmeyer about this and apparently some of the pointed pickle fork hydros are grandfathered in.
someone will have a definite answer

Hydro tend to stay fixed to the water. When a hydro collides with and other it spears the other. A runabout glances off pretty good.  Another thing is you would not get me in a runabout with a round nose as it will bust your ass big time at the. Speed my boat and others go. As a matter of fact we found that if the bottom meets the top deck to form the point, at speeds it gets loose. Krier boats and the old DeSilva I drive had a reversed nose,( don't know how to say it other way). The top deck is behind  where the bottom joins to it. What this does is it starts the air over the deck first and kills the initial lift at the bottom. If you ever drove a fast flat bottom you would know what I say. In fifty years of racing no one has been speared by a runabout point that I have heard of or seen. Steve. Forgot to add, nice boat for her and I,m behind any young lady that wants to run a flat bottom. Wish shrews closer to me as I would load her up in a 125 runabout.

The new to us runabout is a Runne Craft. It is a former National Champion in AXR.Notice the adjustable transom brackets that will allow us to quickly change the height to go from the Mercury to a Sidewinder. The difference between the two motors is about 3 1/2 inches. We will be changing classes during the race day so this setup should work out great.Need to install a turn fin, transom handles,numbers[22P],some JOMS decals,APBA decals, and the boat is ready to start testing.

Nice boat  8-) paint. That is a slick transom   , looks like you loosen 4 nuts pull out the wood block and slide down the alum piece. Is that 3/16" (or :?: ) alum   :?:
How is the alum top filler sandwiched between the plates attached  :?:

The transom plates are fastened to an alum. block 1/2 inch thick x the width of the transom by 10 screws. The screws were drilled and tapped into the 1/2 in. thick block. The inside plate is 1/4 in. and the outside plate is 3/16 in. Yes,zul8tr,loosen 4 nuts, pull out the wooden block, slide the bracket down on the transom to run a Sidewinder.
