Thanks guys, AC tig welded to get it done I left the back thicker to prevent cracking from future vibration. I have found that if you make the repair perfect on both sides it will crack in time. I had to do some hammer and dolly work after to get any waves out.

Just found this post and wanted to say Peter did an excellent job.  I never thought that this would ever get fixed.  I am so happy with Peters work.  Thank you Peter.  Peter look for the 18 boxes of repairs I am sending you. All these are much harder to repair than the cowl.  You’ll see them arrive in the coming days.   Just kidding

I have a photo somewhere showing the paint job I did.  I’ll post it here when I get back home.  Right now I am a few miles of the coast of Tangiers, Morocco, Africa
I’m over here looking for a KE-4 and a hard to find 1956 Green Mark 25.

Thanks again Peter!!!!

Bob, have you been able to locate a "F N R" decal for the front of these cowls?

Looks very nice btw!  I love to do these kind of repairs.

Steve, don’t know where to locate F N R decals.  I wonder is a place like Michaels, the craft store would have something like that.  There is one close to me and perhaps I can stop one of these days and look around.

That's fun work, and a nice job!   icon_thumbup.gif  On our "Greased Lightning" project, the lower cowl for it was cut through with holes on both sides like that.  I picked it up from Jim Judkins at Tomahawk for cheap,  I needed to make some minor changes to it for this project, I needed relief for the pillow block for the throttle bracket, and also no need for a high speed needle adjustment hole.  I also had to move the hole for the fuel shut off slightly to fit the new choke lever.  Finally, the hole for the tiller handle was enlarged slightly.  I didn't feel bad doing this, as the cowl had been pretty well cut up first.  It feels good to take something like this and get it nice again.
